Badminton club

Vision

To promote sportsmanship quality among students and bestow a competitive platform to manifest their skills and talent.

Mission

Our mission is to make a student hale and stalwart so as to pursue a pragmatic and tranquil life through badminton as sport.

ABOUT-

India has cocooned its way out from the famous Indian saying, “khelogekudogehogekharab, padhogelikhogebanogenawab” (all play and no work, makes Jack a dull boy. Now it has evolved as – “khelogekudogehogelajawaab, padhogeikhogebanogenawab” (playing makes one extraordinary, studying makes you nawab).

Indulging in sports is essential for a child’s physical and mental well-being. The evidence of active sportsmanship in India can

also be found in the epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana.

India is a storehouse of talent, especially in the field of sports. But this talent hasn’t been explored and given its due limelight. It could be so because of a lack of motivation and the support and most significantly, the recognition by the public. But, now KIT is giving you a great opportunity to indulge in sports and prove your potential.

Badminton is a game of  “Smashing, Holding, Jumping , Moving, winning, running, picking, catching, walking, preparing, waiting, losing, bouncing, twisting, playing”.

The Benefits of Badminton

  • Improves muscle strength
  • Increase your reflex action
  • Improves physical and mental strength
  • Decrease the risk of diabetes
  • Improves heart functioning

FINAL MATCH

21/01/23

MATCH

21/02/23

The basic aim of the game involves pocketing carrom men and a queen into the holes that are placed on four corners of carrom board. A player may strike/flick a striker with his/her fingers to hit the carroms.

The following equipment is used in a game of carrom:

Carrom men – There are three different types of circular wooden discs in different colours. These are called the carrom men. There are 9 black carrom men, 9 white and 1 red which is also called the queen. The queen is the most important piece to win a game.

Striker – A white circular disc that is bigger than a carrom man is called the striker. It is usually made of plastic and used to strike the carrom men.

Carrom Board – The most important part of the game is the carrom board. It is a square-shaped board with a dimension of about 29 inches. It has four pockets on each corner to pocket the carrom men and queen. A boric acid powder is used on the board to enable the pieces to move freely.

Rules of the game

  • The queen must be placed in the centre, aligning to the outline provided on the board. The other carrom men can be arranged around the queen in alternating colours.
  • The first move is called breaking and must be done in order to disperse the pieces around the board.
  • Then, turn-wise, the players on the board can start pocketing their designated carrom men by placing the striker on the base lines provided in front of each player. One may strike in the front-line only.
  • If the striker is pocketed by accident, the player owes the opposition a carrom coin (carrom man) of their colour to the centre of the board.
  • Upon successful pocketing of a coin, the player wins another turn.
  • A game of carrom is played for 29 points with each coin (men, piece) winning 1 point. The queen wins 5 points.
  • To pocket the queen, a player needs to pocket the queen first and immediately pocket another coin of his/her colour. If he/she cannot pocket another coin, the queen will be returned to the centre of the board.
  • If a player has less than 24 points at the end of the game with the queen, then the player will be scored 5 bonus points declaring him/her winner. However, if the player scores 24 or more points, then the queen does not bring him/her a bonus.
  • Any foul such as pocketing the striker, pocketing opponent’s piece, piece leaving the board, incorrectly positioning striker, final piece pocketing before the queen, etc. will land the player with a penalty. This will include the player placing one of their pocketed coins at the centre of the board and losing a turn to strike.
  • While there may be many other variations to the game, these constitute the most widely used rules and regulations of the game.

Detailed

DESCRIPTION:
The volleyball club at Kanpur Institute of Technology helps the students develop creative skills.
Before start the game, you should remember the rules and guidelines:

  • The first serve of the game will be determined by a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss will have the option of choosing either to serve first or which side of the court they would like to begin to play on
  • A match consists of 2 out of 3 games, the first and second games will play to 21 points rally scoring (25-point cap) and the final game will be 15-point rally scoring (17-point cap).
  • If a ball lands on the line it is considered to be in and a point will be awarded.
  • If a ball hits the ceiling but stays on the same side of the court, it is considered playable. However, if a ball hits the ceiling and then crosses over the net onto the opponent’s side of the court, it is considered a dead ball, and a point is awarded.
  • All players must be on the court when the ball is served. The referee will blow the whistle and the server has 10 seconds to serve the ball
  • Each team is allowed three hits per rally. A block does not count as one of the three hits.
  • A served ball can touch the net.
  • All players must rotate with each service change.
  • A player cannot touch the ball twice in a row during a rally unless the first touch was a block.
  • The server may not throw the ball up and then catch it if they did not like the toss. The server may throw the ball up and let it hit the floor if they did not like the toss, but they must serve the ball within ten seconds allowed by the referee. Also, the server will have only one retry per point.
  • Players may switch positions during the rally but must assume their original positions once the rally is over
  • The server must stay behind the service line and in the service area until after they have served the ball. A jump server must jump from behind the service line and may land in front of the service line after striking the ball.

ABOUT CLUB

“There is no greater joy nor greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someone’s life.”

Social activities club is a modern combination of several types of clubs and reflect today’s more eclectic and varied society. Events can include a broad range of activities from sporting events and social events. Unlike traditional clubs we are not limited to one kind of event or special interest but include a broad range of events in our monthly calendars. The members choose the events in which the club is going to take part, based upon the changing interests of the members. The members themselves determine the events they will attend of those offered. Because the purpose of these clubs is split between general social interaction and taking part in the events themselves. The clubs allow people interested in an activity or subject to congregate and interact with one another. Common examples include book clubs, drama clubs, yoga clubs, sports clubs and dance clubsetc.

In KIT, Social Club is not only about activities and events but we created this club for the betterment of society as well as for our student’s lives. Through this club we arrange events and activities which can serve the humanity in some aspects and makes our students learn the important lessons of lives for their betterment.

ABOUT CLUB

Table Tennis is a game played on a flat table divided into two courts by a net. The lightweight hollow ball is propelled back and forth across the net by small rackets (bats, or paddles) held by the players. It is a fast-paced sport that requires quick reflexes and great hand-eye coordination.

In normal play, the aim is to return the ball onto your opponents side of the table, only allowing it to bounce on your side once before hitting the ball with your racket. You win a point if your opponent fails to return the ball onto your side of the table.

Table Tennis can be played as singles (one person playing against another) or doubles (two people playing on each side) where players have to make alternate shots.
